This Place of Dwelling

I wonder what it would be like to knock on the Father’s door to His house or knock on Jesus’ door where He was sojourning with His disciples. What would it look like? Or better yet, how would He greet me when I knocked? Would His face light up with glee as a Dad, just so happy His daughter’s come to visit, or would Jesus get up from lounging at the table with taper candles lit, wine poured, and bread broken – get up and with a smile and invite me to sit – like I am one of His apostles? A girl who desires a home. How would He greet me? I wonder what it would look like to knock…and yet... In Ephesians 2, I read “we are God’s people,” and get this: "members of His household.” As I read this, I came to realize that I can enter into My Father and Jesus’ Home without second-guessing or as a visitor. If I believe Jesus to be my Rock, my very place I stand upon and of which everything is built, His Home is forever my place of being.
I enter in without knocking, knock the dust off my feet, and throw my backpack down, filled with all the burdens from the day. I am then embraced by the Father who walks over as a gentle Dad, and He embraces me as His own. I see Jesus, the One that holds the household together – the Cornerstone. The One Who knew what it was like to be a foreigner and He knows each of us has felt that feeling as well. I enter in, and it’s rest, it’s my place of joy, it’s abiding- this place is Home forever.
It’s the place where the thread has always been leading me to, where I can let go of all the little things that entangle my heart. I am a citizen here, no other than myself. The apostles and prophets live at peace here, and I can hear them laughing - free from the suffering and struggles they once knew. This is my place of abiding - and where you can abide too. “Knock, and the door will be opened.” While on earth and until our time comes to join the apostles and prophets before us, we are becoming (and have become) His very place of dwelling. We carry this very Home within us – encouraged that we will always have a place to be welcomed by a good Father. Encouraged that the many women before us, call us sisters and are calling us forth to carry His Spirit to those all around us.
I wonder, dear sister, have you found your place yet? Your Household - and would you like to walk up to the door and knock? Oh, what a place that is waiting for you to call Home. Slide your backpack of burdens down and sit at the Table of which you have hungered, and eat. Heads of apostles turned towards you, the Father smiling with pride and a tear in His eye – inviting you to share your heart and be known. This place of dwelling – never taken from you.
Go in courage dear sisters. Courage to knock or enter in - to the door that is open ajar; where the banquet table is set and the wine is flowing. Where music is playing and His people are dancing in celebration of what has - and is to come. Jesus wants to meet you there and the Father has His arms open. Dare to seek, ask, and knock - at the door of the Home that is waiting for you Beloved.
